Acts of Loving-Kindness! from the desk of Jeff Lann, executive director

Acts of loving-kindness describe everything from helping an elderly neighbor go grocery shopping, to treating a homeless person on the street with respect, to participating in a service project that embraces an entire community.
The important aspects of these acts does not lie with just responding to a particular need but in the notion that volunteering is not only meaningful in and of itself but it is also rich for opportunities for learning and connecting with others. Over the past few months I have had the privilege of meeting with Mountainview Christian Church Senior Pastor TJ Southard, Involvement Pastor Craig Ziese and the staff and congregation on the Oral Hull Project.
As part of Mountainview’s community outreach, the Oral Hull Foundation has been selected to be the benefactor of two work parties involving more than 200 church members and 1,200 volunteer hours over a two day period scheduled at Oral Hull Park on Saturday June 20 and Sunday July 19.
Projects include building a new dog off leash area, replacing doors in Rainbow Lodge, building two Bocce Ball courts, adding new seating to our camp fire area, adding new hand rails leading to the Gardens of Enchantment, beautifying our grounds, trail work, painting the spa, plus many other undertakings. Donations from members of the church are paying for these projects.
On behalf of all of us at the Oral Hull Foundation for the Blind, we extend our heartfelt thanks to our friends at Mountainview Christian Church. Their selfless actions, good deeds and compassion are valued gifts. These are true acts of loving-kindness and will immediately and positively help our Oral Hull community in countless ways!
You are invited to meet our friends from Mountainview Christian Church on Sunday, July 19 at 2:00. Get involved with the work party, take a swim, and enjoy a delicious barbeque dinner a bonfire. Round-trip transportation will be provided to Portland. Call to reserve a spot on the bus.
Volunteer Braille Services Inc.
We are very pleased to announce that we have received a $25,000 donation from Volunteer Braille Services, Inc. to improve the Rainbow Lodge restrooms. Frank Synoground, Oral Hull board member, presented the check to Oral Hull President Tom Ciesielski at our 6 June board meeting. Mr. Synoground noted that we need to get the most use out of our facility and one of the drawbacks has been accessibility of the restrooms. This donation will address this need.
